Pilates

Welcome to the MyBodyZone Pilates page.

The Method was developed by German–born Joseph Pliates in the 1920’s at his New York studio.

His studio became the centre for dancers (particularly those next-door at Balanchines’ New York City Ballet) actors, elite sports-persons, and the rich and the famous. All were  attracted by his exercises that  built  a strong and flexible body, achieving the perfect harmony between mind and muscle.

The Method concentrates on strengthening the ‘core’ postural muscles,( pelvic floor, transversus abdominals, multifidus,) learning how to use these to stabilise the trunk. Each exercise is executed with correct postural alignment and you are taught how to recognize un-necessary tension(over-worked muscles groups ), within the body. In this way balance is restored to the body.

The Pilates Method is therefore much more than just a series of exercises, it is an approach to exercise, a way of moving the body.
